The planned vehicle

Oman Investment Authority has assembled a consortium to establish a fund targeting $500 million, approximately OMR192.2 million, for Central Asia and the Caucasus, Oman Observer reported. Formal establishment is planned for early November, according to the authority.

The fund will seek capital from sovereign wealth funds, institutional investors and strategic investors. An Omani company led by a national team is expected to manage it. Target capital is not the same as a disclosed final close or money already deployed.

Markets and sectors

The report identifies Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan as markets of interest. Target sectors include logistics, renewable energy, mining, food and agriculture, and healthcare.

Asyad Group, Minerals Development Oman and OQ Group are exploring opportunities in the region, the authority says. Those exploratory interests should not be presented as completed acquisitions or approved projects.

What comes next

Formal establishment, capital commitments, a disclosed manager and the first investments would supply further evidence of implementation. The initiative is intended to connect overseas investment with opportunities for Omani companies. That objective does not establish an assured financial return or automatic participation route for other businesses.
