Dubai Awards AED3 Billion in Tasreef Drainage Contracts

The new contracts

Dubai Municipality has awarded AED3 billion in contracts for four projects under the third phase of its Tasreef stormwater drainage programme, Emirates News Agency reported on 25 October. The projects involve approximately 100 kilometres of main drainage lines across nearly 100 square kilometres.

The announcement describes awarded work intended to expand the network. It does not establish that the new capacity is already operating or that every covered neighbourhood is protected from all future flooding.

Where the network will expand

The Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim project includes about 42 kilometres of lines. Another project between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road includes 14 kilometres, serving areas including Al Quoz and Al Barsha.

The Al Wasl Road project includes 21 kilometres, while the Al Marmoom network adds 23 kilometres. These packages connect their service areas to the municipality’s main stormwater drainage system, according to the announcement.

Part of a larger programme

Tasreef has a stated total cost of AED30 billion. The municipality says the programme aims to increase stormwater drainage capacity by 700% and reduce pumping-station construction, operation and maintenance costs by 20%. Those are programme-level objectives, not measured results of the latest contract package. Construction progress and commissioning information will show when the planned extensions become usable infrastructure.
